Our engagement

It was October 16th, 2009 and Holly came home from a long day at work. She was very tired coming home from work on a Friday night because she had spent a lot of time in traffic due to the recent rainfall. She was also kind of grumpy because Cole nervously backed up into her car earlier that day at lunch (later to find out it was due to nerves). So she arrived at home, walked up the first set of stairs, and looked around the dining room as usual, thinking “so is there anything special up here?” as a joke. Everything looked normal and she started aiming for the couch. Cole was starting to make dinner (salmon and rice), and wanted her help. He wanted to get her in the kitchen somehow to pop the question (the kitchen is her favorite place because it involves food).

She walked into the kitchen and Cole asked what he should do to the salmon. She brushed him off and said “anything, I’m gonna go lay down on the couch“. She headed back over to the couch and he was forced to rethink his plan. He pulled out something from under the sink and said “why is this here? Did you do this?” and it was a How to Propose: Seattle Style book that they got from the jeweler months ago. Cole had been hiding it from her since. So when she saw it, she didn’t think anything of it.

Holly said “no, I’m sure you put it there to hide from me and forgot about it!” He brought the book to her on the couch and said “well, you can read it now if you want since I already know how I’m going to propose to you.” Sarcastically, she grabbed the book by the corner and shook it as if she was shaking something out of it. Again, this was a joke. Nothing came out so she said “nope, nothing I’m interested in is in here” and she threw the book on the couch. Cole picked it up, handed it back to her and said “I think you should look at page 28“.

Holly still didn’t realize what was happening and thought it was just going to be a good story. She flipped to the page and found the ring inside the book. Then Cole got on one knee in front of the couch and asked her to marry him. Holly’s response? “I messed it up, didn’t I! But yes, I will marry you!
